An Interview with British American Tobacco (BAT)

Here are extracts of an interview about eHorizon Human Resources with Sam Mareri, Business Systems Manager at British American Tobacco (BAT):

Why did BAT choose eHorizon Human Resources?
We implemented eHorizon HR in 2001. One of the reasons for selecting this local package was availability of support. Buying eHorizon HR allowed us to get immediate support at a lower cost and shorter time compared to sourcing from outside the country. eHorizon Human Resources is also portable, which means it has the ability to run on various platforms. In addition, not only did eHorizon HR meet our requirements, but it gave us the possibility for customization in other areas.

What was BAT looking for in a system?
We wanted a system that interfaces with payroll, run on Oracle and would be low maintenance. We also wanted to be able to deploy the system on a Wide Area Network in several countries in East Africa. The STL branch in Uganda assured us that training and support would be readily available outside Kenya.

Why did BAT choose Software Technologies Ltd?
We already had a good relationship with STL, as support of the Oracle database we had purchased from STL had been very good. We also spoke to other STL clients about their relationship with STL and the feedback was very positive. STL’s Training Centre also reinforced their commitment to Oracle.

Was the implementation process smooth and on schedule?
The project plan and methodologies used by STL made the implementation very smooth. Furthermore, they managed the project such that any potential problems were avoided. The implementation did take longer than expected, but this was largely due to personnel changes on our side.

How did the users feel? Was the system well accepted?
The users really liked the system – it’s very user-friendly.

How has the system performed since going live?
There have been no major problems, and any minor issues have been promptly resolved.

Would you recommend STL to others?
I would recommend STL without hesitation.
